About This Dog for Adoption
Bourbon's ideal home
Words often used to describe the beautiful Bourbon include ‘big baby’ and ‘gentle giant’, as despite his bold exterior, he truly is a soppy pooch who loves human company. We imagine that Bourbon would describe himself as being a ‘lap dog’, regardless of his size. Bourbon can become fixated upon seeing other dogs and it is clear that he hasn’t been well-socialised. He would hugely benefit from ongoing, positive socialisation, with a family who could help him to reduce his frustration levels and teach him that he can’t always say ‘hello’ to every dog. While he could build up to having regular walking buddies, he will need to be the only pet at home. Due to a lack of information on Bourbon’s history prior to his arrival at Dogs Trust, as well as being a sensitive chap at times, we feel he would be best suited to a home with secondary school aged children. He mostly walks well on the lead but can be strong at times if he is eager to get to something, so needs a family who are confident managing his strength.
Could you be Bourbon's perfect match?
Spending quality time with his people pals is Bourbons most-loved pastime, but he also enjoys tucking into his dinner, relaxing with a long-lasting chew, participating in fun training, and exploring exciting new places. Being a big, young boy with lots of energy, Bourbon is the kind of dog who would benefit from longer walks, so his perfect match would be with active adopters, who could fill his life with fun and adventure. We haven’t seen Bourbon interacting with toys other than ingesting the soft or rope types! It is likely that his playful side will begin to shine as he settles into his new home, but he should be supervised with toys initially, to ensure he doesn’t gobble them up!
